Brown vs White Rice, Is Brown Really Better?

Fresh Palate

It's been said countless times in the health food community that brown rice is the healthier choice over white. I've done some research on this topic and am going to share what I discovered. You may be surprised.

To sum it up, it doesn't matter and here's why.

White rice has been called "unhealthy' and even "fattening". This is untrue. White rice is  simply brown rice with the outer coating removed. This actually makes it easier to digest than brown. But, brown rice is technically more nutritious than white. It contains more fiber and more vitamin B, but not by much. Protein content is also brought up when arguing that brown rice is better than white, but again not by much. The choice of which rice to chose is not worth worrying about and can be made completely based on personal preference. Eat whatever rice tastes good to you.

Hope this helped clear things up a little!!

3 Ingredient Pancakes(Vegan, Gluten Free, & Easy!)

These pancakes are simple, fast, and deliciously satisfying! Leftovers can even be refrigerated or frozen for a healthy on-the-go breakfast.

Recipe:

Ingredients:

1 RIPE banana(The riper the banana is the better!)

1/2 cup GF oats

1/2 cup "milk" of choice(I used homemade oat milk but almond or coconut milk would be great!)

Directions:

Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth(If it's too runny add a bit more oats). Grease a pan with coconut oil and place on medium heat. Pour about 1/4 cup of batter and cook until you see bubbles begin to pop, then flip! Serve with your favorite toppings(I did banana slices and pure maple syrup- so good) and enjoy!

Ch-Ch-Ch Chia (Seeds!)

Fresh Palate

What are chia seeds? Chia seeds are little seeds with HUGE benefits.

Rich in fiber, protein(great source for vegetarians/vegans), omega 3 fatty acids(more than salmon and best known plant-based source), calcium, magnesium, and naturally gluten free, almost everyone could use a daily dose of these powerful seeds.

This superfood helps many parts of the body, and even some diseases. Chia seeds are known to significantly lower blood pressure and can improve type two diabetes. Because they are rich in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and protein, they are great for bone health. The omega 3s they contain may reduce the risk of developing heart disease, cancers, and inflammatory disease. One ounce of chia seeds has 11 grams of fiber and when placed in liquid the fiber absorbs 11 times their weight leaving you fuller longer, aiding in weight loss(when paired with a healthy diet).

Adding chia seeds into your diet is extremely easy. Put them in baked goods, smoothies, salads, or just mix 1-2 tablespoons in water and drink. Another great way to incorporate them is to make a chia pudding by soaking some overnight in coconut or almond milk and add fruit or any of your favorite topping in the morning for a quick and filling breakfast(recipe hear: http://wellnessmama.com/59344/chia-seed-pudding-recipe/ ).

Buy chia seeds at Fresh Palate and see the benefits for yourself!

Why have a Himalayan Salt Lamp?

Fresh Palate

Have allergies? Asthma? Weak immune system? Trouble sleeping? Moody?

If you struggle with any of these the solution could be simpler than you think... Get a Himalayan Salt Lamp!!

These glowing chunks of pink salt purify and cleanse indoor air. How do they do this? Well, salt naturally attracts water molecules in the air, the heat from the light/candle cause this water to evaporate, which produces (healthy)negative ions. The negative ions neutralize positive ions caused from electronics, purifying the air and reducing and/or eliminating airborne allergens, asthma triggers, respiratory irritants, and bacteria from the air.  Salt lamps are also beautiful and add style to any room!

Come to Fresh Palate and get yourself a salt lamp today!
